He was originally known as Michael Long, a crime fighter who was seriously wounded during work. He was nursed back to health by a mysterious benefactor who turned out to be the chairman of Knight Industries, Devon Miles, played by Edward Mulhare. He provided Michael with equipment and support so that he could continue his crime fighting work -- the most notable being "KITT", a high- performance sports car fitted with artificial intelligence. Another cast member was Bonnie, an associate of Devon's who was a high-tech mechanic keeping KITT performing smoothly. Bonnie was played by Patricia McPherson. In this 1985 episode entitled Knight Racer, Norbert has the role of Fredo Lurani, a cold hearted killer. In the beginning of this episode he is hiding out in the hills above a race track and pointing a high-powered rifle towards the race cars. A woman named Elena is monitoring the race and cheering on her top driver when Lurani pulls the trigger and hits his target. Elena is a race car designer and mechanic who suddenly needs Bonnie and the Foundation to help when she tells them that her car mysteriously crashed and blew up, killing the driver. No one yet realizes that it was sabotage and that Lurani shot out one of the tires and caused the car to crash. Michael investigates and becomes an under cover driver on the race team. Tracking clues, he is lead to a warehouse where he learns the identity of the man responsible for the accident -- Fredo Lurani -- and discovers that he is a hit man. Lurani is then hired to take out Michael when he assumes his undercover role as the teams new driver. He plans to take out his car while he is in it by puncturing the gas tank and setting fire to him. Michael escapes and manages to track Lurani to his yacht, but Lurani gets the better of him and tosses him into the water, believing him to be dead. It turns out that Wayne Altfield, Elena's Uncle, is the one who hired Lurani because of a family feud. When Michael manages to escape every attempt on his life, Lurani confronts him directly at the track, but is stopped before he can make his hit.
